The University of Cologne, Germany, invites applications for three temporary faculty positions (tenure track is possible) at the Associate Professor (Professor, W2) level:

Associate Professor in
Empirical Finance
(tenure track)

Associate Professor in
Empirical Accounting
(non-tenured)

Associate Professor in
Financial Econometrics
(non-tenured)

The University of Cologne is among the leading German research universities and its Business School is consistently ranked among the top schools in research and teaching. Empirical Finance is one of the key research groups with 11 professors and over 20 researchers. The research publications of the group cover the full range of leading journals of the field.

The research focus of candidates should be in Empirical Finance, Empirical Accounting or Financial Econometrics and possibly associated fields. The overall research initiative is quantitative and empirical in nature hence such an approach is required from all candidates.

International experiences, such as a Ph.D. from a leading international university or other international research experiences are appreciated. Successful applicants will have access to a broad range of excellent capital market research data bases (such as CRSP, IBES, Compustat and Buro van Dijk licensed under WRDS) and they will be strongly encouraged to utilize these in further research.

Successful candidates are expected to make a significant contribution to the output of the research group and to participate in the research group’s applications for additional external funding. They are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching skills and to contribute actively to the ongoing development of the faculty’s teaching program, especially its international “Master in Management” program and its Double Master programs. Teaching duties will be carried out primarily in English language.

For Associate Professors, a substantial track record of research published in top-tier journals and an active research program are expected. Associate Professors are appointed for 5 years and have a teaching load of 4.5 sessions per semester week (9 SWS). This will result in about 140 contact hours.

The positions are available as of April 2016 or based on mutual agreement.

The University of Cologne is committed to increase the share of women in research and teaching. Applications of women are specifically invited. In case of equal qualifications, competence and specific achievements, women will be considered on preferential terms within the framework of the legal possibilities.

The University of Cologne is an equal opportunity employer in compliance with the German disabilities laws. Persons with disabilities are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.

The application should consist of the following documents: letter of interest, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, doctoral thesis, two recent (working) papers, and three names of references.
